At a full meeting of Huntingdonshire District Council on the 17th July 2025, councillors unanimously supported a motion put forward by Lib Dem Councillor Nathan Hunt.

Cllr Hunt’s motion commits HDC to explore how the Ask for Angela scheme can be implemented more widely and more effectively across Huntingdonshire, and to use its communication channels to support awareness of the scheme.

The Ask for Angela scheme is a national campaign that allows anyone who feels unsafe in a venue that runs the scheme to discreetly get help from staff by asking them for “Angela”, which is a codeword which alerts the staff and allows them to support anyone in need.

Following the unanimous vote, Cllr Hunt said: “I'm incredibly proud that all Councillors backed this motion, and it's an incredibly positive message that we've all sent.”

“As a young person, I know too well the issues that so many people feel in venues and how so many people, including women, can face additional issues.”

“I'm really proud that I've been able to get this motion passed and the other work I've been able to do in this area - including campaigning for more measures against drink spiking as part of the Young Liberals.”
