JOINT PRESS RELEASE BY THE HDC LIB DEM, INDEPENDENT, AND GREEN GROUPS: 21st MAY 2026

Today Huntingdonshire moves ahead with stability and continuity under a new Joint Administration. Three groups have agreed to collaborate and are ready to lead the council through Local Government Reorganisation. The new Joint Administration running Huntingdonshire District Council includes three political groups: the Liberal Democrats, HDC Independents, and Greens.

The administration will focus on delivering the shared priorities established during the previous Joint Administration, including:

  • maintaining high quality, value-for-money services for residents;
  • supporting healthy, safe and inclusive communities;
  • helping residents access the support they need through prevention and early intervention;
  • supporting sustainable growth, infrastructure and quality housing;
  • supporting local businesses, the environment and responding positively to climate change;
  • sound financial management; and
  • ensuring Huntingdonshire is well prepared for Local Government Reorganisation and the future

Cllr Sarah Conboy (Liberal Democrats) has been elected as Executive Leader of the Council. The rest of the cabinet is formed of the Green group leader, the HDC Independent group leader, and a range of Liberal Democrats. This brings together the experience of the previous cabinet from the last administration and the diverse expertise of new cabinet members.

“The election results speak for themselves. More people are looking for strength and stability. We are forming a new Joint Administration to lead Huntingdonshire through Local Government Reorganisation.  Our new councillors bring a wealth of skills and knowledge to complement our returning councillors. Together we are the right people to ensure Huntingdonshire’s residents are well represented and can rely on support from the council when they need it.” - Cllr Sarah Conboy, Executive Leader
