Lib Dems win St Neots Eynesbury by-election
The Liberal Democrats have won the St Neots Eynesbury by-election to Huntingdonshire District Council, with Ian Taylor elected on a decisive swing away from Reform UK.
The by-election was triggered after Reform UK's Tony Nelson resigned from the seat on the 30th June, less than two months after topping the poll in May's local elections.
The full result was:
- Ian Taylor (Liberal Democrat): 1,024
- Reform UK: 647
- Conservative: 143
- Green: 118
- Labour: 104
- Independent: 102
Ian Taylor, an NHS paramedic who has campaigned locally on healthcare access, the cost of living and protecting green spaces in Eynesbury, will now take up his seat on Huntingdonshire District Council.
Ian Sollom, Liberal Democrat MP for St Neots and Mid Cambridgeshire, said:
"Eynesbury has sent a clear message tonight: after Reform UK's councillor walked away from the job just weeks after being elected, residents wanted someone who would actually stick around and do the work. Ian Taylor has a genuine record of getting things done for this community, and I'm looking forward to working with him to fight for better healthcare, tackle the cost of living and stand up for Eynesbury.
"This result shows that Liberal Democrats are the party that consistently beats Reform UK. And a huge thank you to everyone in Eynesbury who backed our fight to save Tebbutts Road car park - that campaign showed exactly the kind of local champion Ian is."
Ian Taylor said:
“I'm honoured that Eynesbury has put its trust in me. This community means a great deal to me, and I'll work every day to repay that trust. Reform UK had their chance here and walked away from it within weeks. I’ll always stand up for Eynesbury and St Neots.”
