Lib Dem-led Huntingdonshire District Council has broken ground on the £30m Huntingdon Health and Sport Hub project - a massive investment in the health of communities across Huntingdonshire.

The project is a major expansion to OneLeisure Huntingdon, and will include a new 8-lane swimming pool, an expanded gym, improved accessibility, and spaces for healthcare providers on site.

In HDC's press release, Cllr Debbie Mickelburgh, Exec Councillor for Communities, Health, and Leisure (Lib Dem, Godmanchester and Hemingford Abbots), said: “The start of construction is an exciting step forward for the Huntingdon Sport and Health Hub project. We look forward to seeing the hub take shape and the positive impact it will have in supporting active lifestyles and improving health outcomes for the residents in our district.”

District Councillors for Huntingdon East, Cllr Nathan Hunt and Cllr Jo Harvey (Liberal Democrats) said: “This investment will help people be happier and healthier for years to come, and we’re proud of our role in making it happen.”

District Councillors for The Stukeleys, Cllr Lou Ascroft, Cllr Ann Blackwell, and Cllr Tom Sanderson (Liberal Democrats), said: “The expanded leisure centre will support people in The Stukeleys and the whole of Huntingdonshire - it's an investment in their health and a fairer future for decades to come.”
