Leader of the Liberal Democrats, Sir Ed Davey MP, visited St Neots on Thursday (23rd April), ahead of local elections across Huntingdonshire on the 7th May.

The Lib Dems are hoping to win across Huntingdonshire, overtake the Conservatives as the largest party on Huntingdonshire District Council, and keep Reform UK out of power. This would build on the success the party has seen in Huntingdonshire in both the 2024 general election and the 2025 local elections.

At the visit, Sir Ed met with local Lib Dem MP Ian Sollom and Lib Dem HDC leader Cllr Sarah Conboy, along with candidates from across Huntingdonshire. Speaking to activists, Sir Ed highlighted recent Lib Dem achievements at the national level, including campaigning against sewage dumping in rivers, and celebrated local work from Lib Dem councillors including the reopening of Sawtry swimming pool.

The party says that a Lib Dem-majority administration at HDC would invest in health facilities, grow the local economy through investment around RAF Wyton, and deliver real change for the area.

Following the visit, Ian Sollom, Liberal Democrat MP for St Neots and Mid Cambs, said:

“Liberal Democrats in St Neots and the whole of Huntingdonshire have a track record of getting things done. We have a positive vision for our area, and Lib Dem councillors elected on the 7th May will work hard for their communities year round.”

“The choice this time is clear: real progress with the Lib Dems, or division with the Conservatives and Reform UK.”

Cllr Sarah Conboy, Huntingdonshire Lib Dem Group Leader, said:

“It’s been great to have Sir Ed Davey come and support our local candidates today. Our campaign has real momentum and we're really pleased with the feedback we're getting from residents across Huntingdonshire. Voters here know that we're the real alternative to the divisive politics of Reform UK, and the Conservatives.”
