HDC saves over £140k with solar panels and cuts emissions by 66%

Lib Dem-led Huntingdonshire District Council has massively cut carbon emissions, and saved over £140,000 in energy costs in 2025/26 with solar panels at OneLeisure cites.

Liberal Democrat Councillor Nathan Hunt presented HDC's Annual Climate Report for 2025/26 on the 3rd September, highlighting the massive steps taken thanks to the decisions the Lib Dem-led administration has made.

He highlighted the work done to move the council's vehicle fleet from diesel to sustainable fuel, the move to a green energy tariff, and the £140,000 of taxpayer money saved on energy by installing solar panels on leisure centres.

Since 2019, HDC has cut the council's operational (known as scope 1 and 2 emissions) by a massive 66.2%, while protecting the services people rely on.

Nathan is quoted in a HDC press release as saying: “This report demonstrates that tackling climate change and delivering value for money go hand in hand. Through practical investments in cleaner fuels and more efficient operations, we are reducing costs and cutting carbon emissions at the same time. These actions directly benefit Huntingdonshire residents by helping us protect frontline services, reduce long-term operating costs and create a more sustainable district for future generations.”
