Better housing opportunities for all

Huntingdonshire is already one of the fastest-growing areas, with rapid growth from unsustainable home building. Some communities have experienced sudden expansion but without the infrastructure communities needed (public transport, doctors, dentists, school places, shops, and jobs).

We want to see an increase in homes people can afford to own and rent in all communities. In some communities this means micro developments to help communities thrive, enabling local people to live locally, rather than the vast new unsustainable housing estates that are imposed on us. Liberal Democrats welcome community action, and will strongly encourage communities to develop neighbourhood plans, with a status in law like a district council local Plan.

We want to see more sustainable new-build houses, for example built to zero-carbon standards, providing better health for the occupants, suitable for an ageing population, and able to cope with local climate related issues such as potential flooding.
