Ray Powell presents Forty Foot petition to County

Five deaths in six weeks.

It's just too much.

For years now, Forty Foot has had a poor reputation. By their nature many Fenland roads are unsafe, but Forty Foot, even more so than others.

Five deaths in such rapid succession has spured people into action.

Chatteris Lib Dem Town Councillor Chris Howes and Ramsey Lib Dem Town & District Councillor Ray Powell decided to approach other Parish Councils and residents to bring a formal petition to the County Council.

The Hunts Post and the Cambs Times have both put their weight behind the concerns of residents.

Councillor Powell was recently able to present an initial petition of 1,500 signatures calling for action from the County Council, the authority responsible for local roads.

It remains to be seen what action the County Council is likely to take. But initial indications are not good.

"We need action on Forty Foot now," says Ray Powell, "and my campaigning will continue until we see serious action being taken by the County Council.
